A little while ago I included some references to Ed Boon and John Tobias’ 1992 smash hit game Mortal Kombat while waxing philosophic about creators and their inspirations. Around the time of writing that post, I had just re-watched the old Mortal Kombat film from 1995, and hadn’t had much other desire to see what the franchise was up to… Until I saw this incredibly humorous fight scene choreographed in MK1:
Truly, I felt as if I were enjoying a classic Wuxia flick from the 70’s. Sublime!
Little did I realize the ensuing deep-dive into what has become of Mortal Kombat since 1992 would consume far more of my time than I originally estimated, and that usually means I hit on something significant and meaningful in some way or another.
I will not begin here with the various discoveries and analyses that have been percolating since that day… that will come later. I will, however, present to you a short video that is the result of aforementioned discoveries and analyses. It is a parody of the increasingly popular Chat Music memes, one of which inspired this:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! To celebrate the newborn King, the ringing out of 2024, and the ringing in of 2025, please enjoy this wholesome short animatic from the timeline where Liu Kang and Kitana are finally able to get together and start a family. Of course Raiden is the Godfather.
