Many of you are well aware of my fondness for jokes from ye olde episodes of The Simpsons (1989), and if you aren’t acquainted with this quirk, this episode of the works will well instruct you:
Sometimes the jokes just write themselves, and other times you just can’t stop re-using the same joke that wrote itself. That was definitely us during episode 40 of The Works, and hopefully, like a good Dad joke, you will not get tired of us quoting the most tangential The Birds (1963) reference in animation history.
In a stunning display of synchronicity, this past weekend also saw the release of a new banger from Akira the Don from The Master of Suspense himself: Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock
And what a phenomenal message from Mr. Hitchcock! He is truly echoing that which I have been striving to achieve for the better part of the last 24 months. After having lived the Navy life for over a decade, I became quite used to breaking my body and constantly being productive for the sake of productivity rather than borne of genuinely passionate pursuits. Don’t misunderstand: I LOVED the Navy! But it became customary to ensure one was always “on” and performing, regardless of health and morale. And if your genuinely enjoyed hobbies strayed too far from the approved perceptions of the officer corps? Forget about it!
After being kicked out, and left to deal with significant health issues following my Navy service, I felt it was a rare opportunity to practice true mindfulness and experiment with living a completely different lifestyle than that which I had not only lived during my service, but within which I had been raised in, being a Navy brat since birth.
I have truly been blessed, because I can marvel at that which Mr. Hitchcock has described as something that I’ve been able to cultivate in my own life these past two years. And it’s thanks to the wonderful people like you reading this message right now that I have the opportunity to enjoy this clear horizon, and focus only on the creative.
So with this thanks, I invite you to enjoy episode 40 of our loving roast of Imagawa Yasuhiro’s brilliant series, G Gundam (1994).
In 1994 when Sunrise Animation tagged Yasuhiro Imagawa to direct the newest installment of the Gundam franchise, little did they suspect they'd be walking headlong into one of the biggest controversies of the mecha genre.
Join The Nerd of All Trades and special guest Hailey Lain for this deep dive into the greatest Gundam of all time - Hello, Imagawa? I need your most devastating family drama... No, that's too devastating. Rain decides to take a gander from the other side as Schwarz Bruder let's his Beyblade rip, and Domon realizes he gave up the best mechanic God Gundam ever had. It's up to Kyoji to chuck his final log in the hopes of curing Domon's emotional inefficacy!
Please enjoy this blend of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Cinema Aficiona with The Works: G Gundam Episode 40 - No, That’s Too Big…
